As a middle-grade author with a love for writing empowering stories featuring strong female characters like in my MG novel, Amberly and the Secret of the Fairy Warriors, instilling confidence in girls is a passion of mine, which has inspired the creation of WhimziePop Empowerment Poetry and Empowerment Workshops powered by girlife.
My mission to empower girls stems from having suffered from Meniere's Disease from childhood to young adulthood. Meniere's is an inner ear disorder that causes hearing loss, severe dizziness, and anxiety. Fortunately, my dizzy spells eventually eased with the appropriate treatment. However, the lingering impact of Meniere's is hearing loss, which occasionally still affects my balance today. This inspired the creation of my character Amberly, a fairy with a disabled wing who cannot fly and uses a running stick to stabilize her poor balance. It was only after writing the novel that I discovered a butterfly's ears are in their wings! Just as Amberly struggles with her disabled wing, I have faced challenges with hearing loss, yet we continue to...prevail.
Since Meniere's Disease is uncommon in children, it caused significant distress during my childhood because I never met anyone my age who could understand my experience. This made me feel isolated, leading to withdrawal, depression, and anxiety. Moreover, being confined to bed due to severe nausea and dizziness resulted in frequent school absences and bullying because of my frequent illness.
Now, as a member of the Girlife Collective, I aim to empower girls with WhimziePop Poetry and Empowerment Workshops to foster self-confidence and creativity. Our workshops cover topics like gratitude and self-love, and helping girls discover their own empowering inner toolkits. We teach them they are powerful beyond measure and introduce them to their own superpowers!
With a background in English, Journalism, Child Development, and experience working as an arts facilitator in a courthouse children's waiting room, I am an advocate for expressive writing and art therapy.
My middle-grade novel, Amberly and the Secret of the Fairy Warriors, and WhimziePop Tales promote bravery and creativity, and my upcoming projects like WhimziePop Wonders Affirmation Art Journal, WhimziePop Poetry Journal and Pauper's Poetry Journal aim to empower young voices.
As a social authorpreneur, I support girls empowerment organizations and Girl Scout Troops, and plan to give back by hosting fundraisers and workshops in underserved areas, enhancing social emotional intelligence and self-esteem through poetry, arts and crafts, and personal development skills.
